Where to start…today was BUSY….got up, brushed teeth, ate breakfast, got dressed and headed off to swimming. Today was even fun at swimming for Trey because Nana went in the kiddie pool with him while the big boys had their lessons. He’s been so patient during the lessons but he wants to be in the pool so badly.
Came home shortly for a bite to eat and a little lie down (or supine….that was for you, Allie!) before heading off to speech. Dee came with us to speech today and she was glad she got to meet Julia and B. Carlos was his now-typical goofball self and didn’t really settle down and get work done. He did get homework to do so hopefully we can get things done during the week. It was the last time Carlos gets to see B, unless she does some private speech therapy !
We stopped in at Steelhead to see Gay’s new office and chatted with the ladies there for a few minutes. We’d promised to take them to Coldstone Creamery for some green apple ice cream with gummy bears, got there but Trey and Carlos couldn’t settle themselves down long enough for us to order. It was quite traumatic when we told them all we were leaving without ice cream. The van ride home was not pleasant, as they were all crushed that they didn’t get their treat. Levi was a rockstar at ice cream, and was going to get some cookies in the car as a reward since he shouldn’t have been punished for the little boy’s behavior BUT….he was bawling and couldn’t pull it together so he lost that as well. That lead to a chorus of bawling and screaming. It was lovely…not so much.
We came home and got to have dinner with my cousins, Nathan and Andrew and Andrew’s girlfriend, Mindy and Nana and Papa. Andrew and Mindy live in Montana so we don’t get to see them all that often and the boys were showing off in a gigantic way. We got out the parachute and I don’t know if the boys had more fun or the grownups. You’ll see by the video. The other video is the boys running in circles, this will prove just how amped up they were. Nathan’s watching in the background…is this how he babysits? 🙂

Exciting day tomorrow, our friend Jani (who moved away a few months ago) is coming back to visit us. I just can’t wait, we have missed her SOOOOO much. She ran the Parent and Child Center and we got to see her a couple of times each week when we took the boys in to play. It was so nice to have someone to chat with about parenting and life, I do miss our talks and friendship but realize that people have to move on in life sometimes. It will be great to see her and catch up and see what’s been going on with her since her move.

We had an amazing weekend, with a lot of down time with the boys. We did a BBQ with Alisa and Holly. So relaxing, the boys drove their Tonka trucks around their property (with many cool trails) and we hung out and had adult conversation. Imagine that! Ended the evening with a campfire and s’mores. I had more fun poking the fire and listening to the boys hoot and holler. Carlos didn’t want s’mores but he ate his weight in chocolate!
We had our Sunday morning coffee at the Bakery with Margaret and saw Holly and Gabe down there as well. It’s such a great tradition, the boys know every Sunday that we go to the “pullapart house” to get breakfast and they love it.
Another thing we are working on here is having the big boys pee standing up. It doesn’t sound like much, but it is hard because we can’t really show them what to do. We threw Cheerios into the toilet and they thought it was fun to aim at them, and they get the idea of it. Levi thinks that he needs me to put Cheerios in the toilet every time he has to pee…I don’t think so! Levi would probably die of embarassment if he knew this picture of him was on the blog, but I was walking by the bathroom and saw him and it was adorable so I had to snap a photo.
Speech today was great, the first picture on the blog here is Carlos with Linda Raquer. He does so well with her and it really is amazing to watch him slow down and say words he doesn’t usually get out clearly. He still has a long way to go but I see huge progress being made and Carlos always looks forward to Mondays with Linda Raquer. She brings SUPER cool toys to play with, too and he loves her.
Other pictures….Dee got one of the Blue Angels smoke loop, she got to watch while the boys were napping and I was grocery shopping. We saw them practicing and they flew right over the house, the boys were in awe of the noise and the cool blue planes flying by. Also, Trey today was so wiped out after we took the big kids to swimming lessons that he crashed before lunch…pretty cute pic, though. That boy LOVES to sleep.

August 2, 2007 (pt 2)

The big kids were up from nap and hanging out on the front porch this afternoon waiting for Trey to wake up so we could go out and play on the bounce house. Well, I’m sitting here try to pick out stories for the cd compilation (see previous post) and in run Levi, Carlos and Alice all SCREAMING and freaking out. Apparently there is a wasps nest in the side of our house…and they had disturbed it and all got stung. Dee ran around front and I got the kids into the kitchen, stripped them down and started taking stingers out of them. They were all hysterical and crying and telling me how mean the bees are and wanting to be hugged (which I can’t do until I get stingers out and clothes off and am sure they are bee-free). I kept trying to reassure them that we’d make it all better…but it was hellish. Poor babies. We got all the stingers out, ice and baking soda paste on the stings and a dose each of Benadryl and Tylenol. Carlos ended up getting stung TEN times, Levi twice and Alice and Dee each once. NOT FUN! They were all fine, no allergic reactions…shocking with Carlos getting stung so many times and Levi being asthmatic and so sensitive to all bug bites. Alice had lots of drama, they all did but she took the cake, but this was her very first bee sting and it hurt.

After all had calmed down and everyone was medicated and redressed and calm, we hung out inside while “Mama Dee the bee killer” took care of the nest. The kids were fascinated with her spraying and felt better knowing the bees were no longer going to be there. Poor Alice, she had calmed down about the sting but when Mary came in, she was hysterical…you know that feeling when you think you are ok and then you see your mom and you just lose it!? That was Alice today. She pulled it together and the kids all told Mary all about the bee experience and then we took them outside while Dee made dinner and Mary and I weeded the garden.

The rest of the evening was, thank God, uneventful. Hoping the boys all sleep well tonight and wake up and forget about the bees. Not going to happen, but a mama can dream.

Take a close look at these sweet faces then read….how can you say no?!

Ok, so the boys have been loving books on cd lately and we listen to the same 3 books over and over again in the car. We have having a tough time finding preschool age (attention span) books on cd and I am going mad listening to the same stories repeatedly.
So, I’m hoping I can do even better than random books on cd for them. I’m hoping that our friends/family will be willing to help us out by recording a story or two for the boys. I will compile the stories we get and then we will have lots to listen to. If you have a microphone on the computer and know how to do it…super cool. If you need help, we can set up a time to do a recording here. It’s something that won’t take long, is easy and will be treasured for years to come.

Let me know if you are willing to help us out! Also, if you have kids and want a copy, I’m more than willing to make more.

Thanks!

Kendra

If you haven’t guessed…this is Carlos with the infamous “B” and Julia, and the ladies at the speech office. The last is Carlos just 5 minutes after we left speech, he was sound asleep the minute he got buckled in the carseat. With this exhaustion you would assume that Carlos worked hard at speech…you would be WRONG. He is getting better but still being his stubborn self and refusing to work. This boy is going to turn us grey!
He was sweet, though, in the car going to speech. He was talking about being excited to see B again and when I asked him about speech, B and Julia he said, “I do like Julia. I do love B and I talk….sssssss-nake”
Carlos is such a mama’s boy and rarely opens up to others. He’s tough when he first meets people, but he eventually warms up and shows his ultra-sweet side. He’s just so passionate and his emotions are all extreme. I honestly don’t know how B won him over the first time she saw him, I was awestruck but for Carlos it was love at first sight….

Patti and Jeanie got a new puppy! She doesn’t have a name yet, but we got to meet her tonight. Levi and Carlos let her climb all over them and they giggled and giggled. Levi loved when she would lick his face and even thought it was funny when she nipped at his nose. She knocked Carlos over!

Tomorrow is speech….fingers crossed that Carlos will pull it together and get over his depression about “B” leaving and do some work for Julia. Apparently “B” will be there doing some paperwork and Carlos asked if we can take a picture together, so we’ll see!

Banana split night and scenes from the bounce house!

The other night we decided to treat the boys to an easy dinner of BBQ sausage and some fresh green beans from our garden and then banana splits for dessert. They loved it and it was easy for us as well. In the summer I just feel like I don’t want to cook anything and by the time I’m inspired and we are all inside again, it’s way too late to start. So, the easier the better. These are the times I wish we could afford to do Dream Dinners and have that convenience, but we can’t…so oh well!

I got to go out to lunch with my dad today while my mom stayed with the napping children. We went to Isla Bonita and I got fajitas (as I always do when I’m there) that I will be paying for in gastric distress tomorrow. It was great to be able to hang out with my dad and chat about life without all the distractions. Hoping we can do it at least monthly.

I gave the kids a choice today of either setting up the tent to play in or setting up the bounce house. As you can see, they picked the bounce house and bounced until they couldn’t bounce anymore. With the weather staying nice, we can keep it set up for a couple more days. This is always a treat in the summer.

The garden is mass producing carrots, green beans and snap peas. It’s amazing to see the little ones in the rows of peas eating them non stop and begging for me to pull some carrots and wash them off immediately for them to devour. And it’s such a fight to get them to eat veggies sometimes at regular meals…

Holly and Gabe came by for a bit tonight to hang out, the kids watched the “Free To Be You and Me” DVD that we got from the library. Amazing that the show I watched 30 years ago is still a hit with 4 year olds today. They absolutely love it and it’s fun to watch again after all these years. Funny video link of the boys dancing to the Hampster Dance card I bought for Nathan…Nate, now you see why the card never made it to you. Gotta love Trey’s hillbilly dance, too!

Started the day like we do most Sundays….coffee at the Bakery with Margaret! It was fun, the boys know our routine and love going to the “pull-apart house” to get, you guessed it, pull-aparts and juice while Mamas get their morning coffee.

We had a real treat today and went on a blueberry picking adventure with Holly and Gabe. It was super fun, the boys were great in the car (Levi rode down with Holly and Gabe) and really helped with bluberry picking and we came home with a couple big bags full. Hoping to make a pie or some jam or who knows what. If you have any great bluberry ideas, please pass them along.

Came home and the boys are hanging out awhile before bedtime and I’m heading out to do the weekly grocery shopping. Tomorrow Levi starts Future Stars camp and Carlos has speech therapy…another Monday!

July 28, 2007

It’s hard to tell from this picture…but that’s Trey’s arm after falling into some nettles at Nana and Papa’s house. He got stung everywhere, even a couple on his chest and leg. Poor baby. He is fine, got some Cortisone cream on it and that stopped the stinging, then some Benadryl onboard to bring the swelling down. Let’s hope after nap he’s feeling better.
We took the boys into Home Depot today and then out to lunch in Poulsbo. The boys did very well and are, for the most part, behaving. We stopped by Nana and Papa’s house to put together a playstructure they got while the boys played for awhile. Came home and all are taking naps…it’s been a nice, mellow day. Much needed.

July 27, 2007

So there are times in a mom’s life when it seems that you are a complete failure. That came on Thursday for me…it was the last day of gymnastics camp for the boys and Alice and Nana and I went for the “performance”. All the kids were doing the movements to the song they had been rehearsing EXCEPT for my boys. No, seriously, it was only them who were misbehaving. I have video to prove it. Check the boys in the bottom right corner of the video, there are two parts. At one point I thought Levi was going to redeem himself, but that was wishful thinking.

We had a long talk with the boys, they seemed to think it was hilarious to not listen to the teachers. We were not amused. They got a chance to redeem themselves at soccer today and did a great job, best ever, and listened to the coaches and did all the drills perfectly. There is hope….

Carlos had a doctor appt today (just a 3 year old check up) and he is now in the 5th percentile for height and the 9th for weight. Grow, grow, grow dude! At this rate he will be about 5′ 1″ tall when he is 20 years old compared to Trey’s 6′ 6″!

Nathan wants to me tell you all that he stopped in the other night for a ride in the new minivan….there ya go, there’s your shout out!

This weekend will bring some house cleaning and tidying, it’s a pit again and I just can’t live like this. So much clutter.
