Uh yeah…bring on the storm

So most “first day of school” pictures are a sweet shot of the kids posed by the front step with their backpack on but here’s a Field-Bennett family first day of school picture. At first glance it looks as if Levi is upset about going to school. Your heart breaks for the little guy. Well, if you think that, you are wrong. He couldn’t wait to go back to school. If you look a little closer you will notice that our eldest son is still in his pajamas with his coat on. Yes, young Levi decided to spend an hour at the breakfast table this morning goofing around instead of eating breakfast and getting dressed for school. After numerous reminders, I was done. When his bus came, I told him to put his coat and shoes on and he literally freaked out. He now wanted to finish his food and get dressed but it was too late.
Anyhow, he went to school in his pjs (with his clothes in his backpack…I’m not THAT mean) and I’m pretty sure tomorrow he’ll manage his time a little better and be ready to go when the bus comes! All in all, his first day of school was great and he was so excited to see his friends from last year.
Carlos had speech in Silverdale today and he actually got some work done! They started out with the K sound, he wasn’t having it and she moved onto “st” and he nailed it. He was so proud to come out and show me what he was saying. Julia had made up some homework with pictures of words he had been working on. A stop sign, a street a stove, you get the idea. Anyhow he was telling me “STop, STreet and ST-kitchen” Too cute.
We swung by Patti and Jeanie’s tonight since they had some pennies for the boys fund raising. They played around awhile, we swung through the Health Food Store (aka McDonalds) and grabbed a quick dinner, then got them all to bed.
Fingers crossed that the morning routine tomorrow goes a lot smoother!

Calm before the storm…..

First day of school for Levi (Carlos starts Monday) and all the boys are still sleeping. It’s nice to hang out and have peace and quiet for a little while until they get up. Dee and I can actually have a conversation and watch the news and hear what’s going on in the world. Simple things we tend to take for granted. Anyhow, it’s been a nice morning.

Shortly, it’ll all go down the drain….the boys will get up, it’ll be like herding cats to get them to the table to eat. Then the struggle starts to get Levi dressed, teeth brushed and looking presentable before he heads off to the bus at 9:15.

We’ve got speech in Silverdale this afternoon so I’ll pick up Levi from school and head out with the gang. Not sure if we’ll keep going to speech in Silverdale if he’s going to get it at preschool. To be completely honest, there are times with his temper and attitude, I’m not even sure I want to know what he’s yelling at us!

Ok, Carlos is up….enough down time for me!

Oh, and we are on the lookout for little Legos and Playmobile toys. The boys have decided that their “Duplos” are for babies and they are ready to move on. C’est la vie! Good thing Christmas is coming.

Rough start but we're all smiles now

So today is one of those days when you wake up (or get woken up) and you have to really struggle to say “I’m going to have a GOOD day”. So here goes.

First thing I hear this morning is a little voice saying “Mama K, can I go to the bathroom?” I try to clear the fog and figure out (1) why is someone asking me to use the bathroom? (2) Is it morning yet? (3) doesn’t this person know that waking Mama up is a BAD idea? So, it was Levi, he went to the bathroom and then proceeded to slam the toilet seat down, flush then shake and rattle the doorknob to his bedroom (sidenote…if any of you know Levi, you will already know that he has shut his bedroom door on the way out to the bathroom. He can’t help himself, if there’s an open door, he’s going to shut it). When he rattles the bedroom door he wakes up Trey and Dee and Carlos. So, it’s 6:26 and we are all awake. Thanks, Levi. He went back to bed and fell back to sleep, but I went in pretty quickly and woke him up. Why? Oh, because I’m mean like that and if you wake me up you will certainly be up as well and ready to take on the day.

Anyhow, attitude adjustment here….the boys wanted to play in their bedroom so I let them. They usually play monsters and there are lots of creative laughs and stories coming from their room. This morning I hear Levi yell “Poopy butt!” and all the boys were belly laughing. Yeah, he went to time out, we won’t allow potty talk even though it’s the funniest thing in the world to them right now. It’s tough, though, because even if we discourage it they get encouragement from their brothers and that can be more powerful than Mamas. All in all, they’ve had fun this morning…now we’re headed out to the grocery store to get Carlos’ “yogurt juice” and some apple juice. Two staples we can not live without.

And finally…a little cartoon for Minda!

Ouch!!!!!

Baby went home today, he was great and we’ll miss him but with school starting and all it’s best to just have our guys. Speaking of school…great news….Carlos got into the Wilkes preschool! We still have another meeting to go before we can start. Levi will start school on Wednesday and then Carlos will start next Monday. They will be in the same class and ride the bus together but they will try to separate them as much as they can during the school day.
We had a day of accidents, starting with me ramming my foot into a baby gate. I think I may have broken my little toe, it HURTS tonight. I’ll follow the advice we tell the kids “you’re fine, rub some dirt in it”. Carlos took a nasty spill in the yard, too, he was running around pushing his Tonka dump truck and the truck went a little faster than Carlos and he slammed his nose on the ground. It, too, could be broken…but there’s nothing we can do but get some Tylenol onboard. Poor little guy.
The kids were in the local paper, the Bainbridge Review, for their collecting money for “Pennies for Peace”. We don’t have a ton (hint, hint) but they are getting there slowly but surely. They were all pretty excited to see themselves in the paper, though.
Levi got a treat tonight and got to hang out with Gay and Rob. They had dinner, watched a movie and made brownies. He loves being a big boy and doing fun things on his own. THanks Gay and Rob!!!
I’m beat and my toe is throbbing…time for some ice and some rest.

Love and Marriage, Love and Marriage…..

What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. If you know me, you know I’m not into weddings BUT today was a total exception to the rule! It was a gorgeous location, the sun was shining, the bride was glowing and the ceremony was short, sweet and beautiful. Congrats to the happy couple, Jillie and Jeremy! We were proud to be a part of your special day.
Trey and Baby aren’t missing from the pictures, if you were wondering. Carolyn was nice enough to take them for a couple of hours so we didn’t have to deal with tantrums and newborns. You can guess which one does the tantrums. It was nice to be evenly matched for once.

Oh, and here is the video of the goofball boys, Levi and Ty, doing their booty dance at the reception. They had so much fun together and this dance was their favorite.

Starbucks anyone?

A few pictures to start our busy weekend….welcome to Baby (2 months old who will be with us a short time). Carlos’ new favorite pastime is making faces at the baby. He’s going to be a great daddy someday. Last night Baby was fussing and Carlos ran over and said, “It’s ok, Baby, I’m right here”. Very sweet.

Carlos also was up bright and early this morning and got to go to Safeway with Mama D to get coffee, juice and doughnuts. He actually got a little Starbucks of his own and couldn’t have been happier. It’s the Guatamalan thing!

Busy day today…farmer’s market, Gabe’s birthday party and Jillie’s wedding!

Date Night is the best!

I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday…the long weekend really messed me up. Not in a bad way, it was great to have an extra day but my mind keeps thinking it’s Tuesday. Monday we did coffee with Margaret (that we usually do on Sundays so that helped mess me up!) which was great as always. The boys turned into little demons on Monday, we did coffee, went to Nana and Papa’s for a tasty lunch and then napped a little and headed over for a fun Labor Day BBQ at Alisa and Holly’s.

Last night we ate our freshly caught crab. YUM! It was nice, we fed the boys a little early and they watched a movie while we had a relaxing dinner with Mary. It was nice to chat and hang out and have the boys fairly content in the next room. We put them to bed and chatted a bit more, it was really nice.

Today we had the follow up for Carlos’ testing with the preschool. He did great, actually cooperated and worked hard for an hour with the speech testing. I did a behavioral assessment while Carlos was in the other room. That proved interesting. Apparently some of his behaviors are indicators for ADHD. That was a surprise to hear for sure. I’m not sure I buy it, but only time will tell. We got back tomorrow for more testing.

Dee and I got a rare date night tonight since my mom was willing to watch the boys while we caught a movie. Saw the Bourne Ultimatum and loved it. We need to go re-rent the first two Bourne movies, we’ve seen them but it’s been awhile. We’re stuffed with popcorn and red vines and ready for bed…but the break was great, a couple hours here and there with nobody needing anything from you was much needed for both of us. It’s hard to fathom if you’ve never had 3 little ones who are “on” you all day, but sometimes you just need some space. We got a warm welcome on the return home, though, which is always sweet. I think they enjoyed the break from us as well.

The Shark Whisperers

So we had the BEST day today….drove to Tacoma to Ole & Charlie’s Marina to meet up with our friends, Jenn and Rob and to spend the day on their boat. The boys got their pirate garb on (as did Jenn and Rob) and we headed out. First we set the crab pots, then anchored across the harbor, ate some lunch and went fishing for sharks. We caught them, too! Dee started out with one that was about 1 1/2 feet long but feisty. Then I caught a couple of bullheads, Jenn caught the monster 3 1/2 foot shark and I followed with one that was about 2 1/2 feet long. The boys were impressed with the sharks and even got to touch them! Levi’s favorite part of the day was picking out which herring to go on the lines. We went and hauled up the crab pots and had success, got 9 keeper crab!

So much fun was had by all, we can’t wait to get back out on the water, hopefully we’ll be invited back soon! It’s time to crash………..
