Thanks Brad

I knew I liked this guy….from my favorite roles of his in Thelma and Loise and A River Runs Through It to his beautiful, multicultural family and now this:

The same week he and Angelina Jolie pledged $2 million to help fight tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia, Brad Pitt has given $100,000 to stop a California ballot initiative that would ban same-sex marriage – the largest donation so far from a prominent individual in the entertainment industry, reports Variety. “Because no one has the right to deny another their life even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8,” Pitt, who gave to the group Californians Against Eliminating Basic Rights, said in a statement. A spokeswoman for the organization ProtectMarriage, which supports passage of Proposition 8, said of Pitt, “We certainly respect his right in the political process, but we don’t believe he is the most exemplary figure on the issue of marriage.”
Bi-Partisan IssueRepublican California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama oppose Proposition 8. Republican nominee John McCain is in favor of it. “It is our hope that others in the entertainment industry will step up and match Brad Pitt’s heroic commitment to equality and to defeating Prop. 8,” said political strategist Chad Griffin, who is aiming to defeat the measure, which is due on the Nov. 4. Two years ago, Pitt said about his own much-speculated-upon relationship with Jolie, “Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able.” So far, California and Massachusetts recognize same-sex marriage.

First Day of School…First Day of School

It’s official…all of the boys are in preschool. The schedule is a bit crazy, I’m spending the majority of my day in the van picking up and dropping off kids. They love school, though and are glad to be back. We now have Levi in morning preschool and Carlos in the afternoon so it’s been nice to get some time with each of the boys that’s more one on one. It’s been tough to break up the chunk of time in the afternoon that was naptime, though, seems I’m not getting as much done as I have in the past. Who needs a clean house anyway, huh?

Mother of the Year

Just a little background…tonight all of the boys got to bring a toy with them to Alisa and Holly’s to keep them busy. Levi brought his new, special Spiderman car that I bought for him the day he broke his collarbone. At one point in the evening he threw it at one of his brothers. I took the car away from him (much to his dismay) and told him it was in timeout awhile. Jump to after dinner, the car was on the table and Levi walked in and grabbed it off the table and started to play with it. I went in, took the car from him and told him that since he had thrown the car earlier that it was mine for awhile and that when a toy is taken away, he doesn’t just get to have it back whenever he wants it. He got mad and told me “you are a bad mom”
All I can say is…wow. Yeah, it hurt my feelings but all in all I know in my heart that he’s mad about the car and he still loves me, etc., etc. Where’s the love?
Carlos and Trey kept piping up in the car with “I love you Mama K” and “You are the best mom” and generally trying to earn some brownie point. Don’t you just love when the siblings step up to try to be absolutely amazing?!
Hoping he wakes up on the right side of the bed tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, Holly

So we had a great evening tonight at our good friends Alisa and Holly’s. It was Holly’s 43rd birthday and she wanted to have a lesbian dance party, how fun! We met their new neighbors who were fantastic and Mary and Alice joined us all, too. I captured some funny, funny video of Holly trying to coax Dee into dancing. Dee insists she doesn’t dance but Holly would not take no for an answer. Dee’s gonna kill me for posting this, but it’s great stuff. Click the links if you wanna see the footage:

Holly doing some seriously negotiating

Dee DOES dance!

Happy Birthday, Holly!

All in all a great evening with the best of friends.

Zucchini Races

Here are our works of art…the zucchini racers! We pulled out the hot glue gun early this morning and got to work. Trey won the “Best Chase scene” zucchini before the races even started. They did it in heats, by weight. Our guys were in three consecutive heats and it was really tough to get them up there in time. Levi’s zucchini went part way down the ramp then took out it’s competitors…Carlos’ lost it’s back wheels before the race even started so his race wasn’t too successful and Trey let go of his way too early….so he was disqualified. All in all a super fun time but no big winners. The boys all got ribbons and were happy. We’ve got some great ideas for next year for sure…no more hot glue guns and bigger zucchinis!

Where Did You Sleep Last Night?

It was like musical beds at our place last night….we all started out in our own beds, then Carlos came into our bed in the middle of the night (as always), then Dee got up to use the bathroom and in came Levi to sleep with me. I’m sandwiched between Levi and Carlos and I can’t turn over but I hear Dee come in and then leave. It’s now 5am. Levi is fidgiting and eventually I boot him out of bed and back to his own. By this time I’m wide awake. When I get up, see that Dee has scrunched into Trey’s bed. I turn on the news and Trey comes out of his room crying about how Mama Dee left his bed, and he snuggles with me on the couch. Dee had returned to our bed. How’s a mama supposed to sleep in when musical beds is going on!?!?!?

What A Deal

Just a heads up to the Bainbridge types….Rite Aid has a TON of kid sized school supplies for 50% off. We got the boys mini tape dispensers (a 2 pack) for 25 cents each, mini pens for 25 cents each and many notebooks and more at dirt cheap prices. Our boys LOVE notebooks, they will sit in the kitchen for long periods of time and write notes, their letters and shopping lists to help me out (granted, they are only random letters but the boys are trying!)
They are going to be SO jazzed to get tape…I know it sounds weird but they love tape and they would waste massive amounts of it if given the chance. I always cringe at the “zzzzzip!” noise when they have a roll and pull a foot out at a time. The little rolls will be perfect and I don’t care if they use the whole thing.
Just a heads up!
