And the verdict is…

The sleep apnea tests came back and yes, Carlos has it. We kind of figured that was the case, but it was still tough to hear that up to 6 times per hour he has airway obstruction. The next step is getting his tonsils out and we’re hoping that’s going to make a big difference for him. You have to figure, he just can’t be getting enough sleep each night. As a mom I’m scared and hopeful and anxious and so many things. I think the recovery time might be hardest, he’s not one to be kept down for long!

YUK-ima

I can’t really complain…we are kind of on a vacation. We’re in Yakima (affectionately known to some as “Yukima”) at the Foster Parent Conference. There are good things, the weather is better than in Seattle, we’re having some good bonding time with the big boys (Trey’s with Nana and Papa and having a blast getting 100% of their attention) and getting to swim in a pool is always a treat, too. The pool here has an island in the middle, not quite sure why, it’s like a little minature golf course out there but it’s there and astroturf and well, just there. Interesting design. The boys think it’s a cool pirate island and since there’s a part of the pool that’s only 2 feet deep they feel independent walking around and climbing onto the island while I actually get to swim in water deeper than 4 feet! They also love getting rides on my back through the “deep” water and sinking their goggles so I could dive to the bottom to get them.
We were wiped out after a morning autism spectrum class, Carlos and Dee stayed at the hotel since he wasn’t feeling good, and we came back and did a little more swimming. Let me tell you another thing about the pool. It’s COLD. Seriously frigid cold where I had to jump in or I wouldn’t have gone in at all. The boys didn’t seem to mind, though and really thought the warm kid-sized hot tub was a thrill and helped bring the body back up to temp.
We have a couple of classes tomorrow that we think will be super, about Understanding Anger in our Children and in Ourselves. Hoping to come out of that one with some valuable skills and new ideas.
Thought this pic of Carlos with the Pizza Hut box was cute…he kept walking around the hotel room saying “does anyone want a slice of my pizza?”. Maybe Pizza Hut will pick him up for endoresments.
Back to the land of gray skies and rain tomorrow…..looking forward to seeing Trey (we’ve sure missed him!) and Nana and Papa, getting back into the school routine and Carlos starts swim lessons, too.

Weekends with Friends

It’s only Saturday but we’ve had the chance to see many friends this weekend. What a pleasure! Today Steph and Dave stopped in with their kids to play for a little while today and the boys loved having another boy to play trains with. They all sort of parallel play but when all get along and even work together building a track it’s cool. Just a few pics from their visit.

Wii Fit

This is hilarious….we got a new Wii Fit and it’s so cool. Mary and Alice came over to play and we all did lots of hard work. What fun! The boys hula hooped, ski jumped, slalomed and ran. What a perfect way to spend a soggy afternoon.
We all have our favorite things to do…Dee likes the ski jumping, I pretty much rock at heading soccer balls, Trey LOVES to run and Levi likes to balance. Mary spent an hour working out…she’s quite the hula hooper!
If you are looking for a new, fun way to work out this is a pretty cool option. But, the bad part about it is that it does your BMI and all and Dee and my little cartoon characters (Miis) are tubby! Hoping that will change soon as we work out more.

Sleep Much?

Trey had preschool screening early this morning and then he caught a bit of a nap in the car after we ran some errands. Came home, we were getting ready for some friends to join us for dinner and we were tidying up and all and we looked down and there Trey was, fast asleep in the hallway. Poor little guy couldn’t take it anymore. People walked over him and he didn’t even flinch. That’s our Trey, he can sleep like a champ.
Had a great evening tonight and Levi made a new friend! Steve and Mary and Katy and Colin (with their kids) came for dinner. The kids all played fabulously together, watched a little Scooby Doo while the grown-ups talked and all in all we had a wonderful night. We just love them and are glad they are a part of our lives. Funniest thing….Katy and Colin’s little girl has a bit of a crush on her new friend, Levi…see her making the “stretch and put an arm around him” move? Classic!

Margie, You Will Be MIssed

Last night we had to say goodbye to a VERY quality woman and friend, Margie Storch. She’s an awesome lady who is moving away and will be missed dearly. She’s always been one of my favorite people.
Anyhow, her going away party was last night and we were lucky to have Carolyn watch the kids while we had some grown up time. We even got Dee out of the house to go, can you believe it?! I think she had fun, too…maybe we’ll start to get out more. Ha Ha Ha!
All the best, Margie, hope this part of your journey brings with it all that you want and need.

What Were We Thinking?

Sometimes the boys are just too damn cute and they bat their long eye lashes and smile their big dimpled smiles and melt your heart. That happened tonight, when Carlos wanted to sleep in Trey’s bed and we, like suckers, said yes. Every so often one of the boys asks if they can sleep in their brother’s bed and we usually stay firm and say no, but sometimes cave and it’s never a good idea.
Tonight, at 10:30pm, the boys are all still awake and there’s major drama. See, once you say yes to them sharing a bed, it always ends up with more playing then sleeping and the you have to change your mind and send them back to their own bed…thus creating massive drama. At this point. they are quiet but mad at us.
I don’t get that either…I mean, we were NICE and let them do something cool. They were the ones who blew it. How come we’re the bad guys?!!?
