Student Driver

So Levi’s been hanging out a lot at the shop the last couple years at Alchemy Arts, working on welding and tinkering and building – super creative stuff.  He absolutely loves his shop time and comes home exhausted and dirty and happy.  What an experience!  He’s feeling pretty grown up because he can ride his bike there and back, gaining a little independence from the Mama taxi.
An opportunity came up for us to buy a little truck – local seller, impulse buy but surely a project for Levi to work on.  He couldn’t be more proud!  It’s a little ’88 Mitsubishi Mighty Max.  It has ZERO bells and whistles and needs some work done before it’s drivable.  I figure with it being such a bare bones truck, he will get a chance to learn the engine and how it works and gain some very useful mechanics skills in the process.  He has already started working to pay it off, so it can be his officially.
It’s fun to watch him be excited for this project.  He’s ready to pound out the dents, clean it up head to toe and is even thinking about repainting it with a cool artistic design of his own creation.  He’s got 3 years before he can drive it and a lot of work to put into it, but I can’t wait to see what it’s going to look like when he’s finished.
