Spa Day at the Field-Bennetts

This morning started off with a much anticipated visit from Godma Ann. It had been way too long since we’d seen her and it’s always a good time when we do. The boys, for some reason, got into brushing Ann’s hair and then it turn into a whole spa treatment with a manicure. Ann gave them the idea of starting up this spa like a lemonade stand, that people would come and pay them for their services. Carlos immediately jumped on the chance to earn money, and it was really cool to see the boys working together to make signs, gather supplies and all to get their little business started.
I helped get the table set up, made some lemonade to sell (in case people didn’t want the spa experience) and the business “A Dollar a ‘Do & A Nickel A Nail” was born. We had neighbors stop in, a couple of bikers, our mail lady and Monica brought the girls over for manicures and hair brushing. They manned their table and pitched their services diligently for over an hour and made $15. They are looking forward to a trip to Mora to spend their hard earned cash.

MYX Tea Review

If you know me, you know I’m a big time coffee drinker but you may not know that I have always liked tea. It brings me back to childhood when my mom would make me a cup of tea with a little sugar and milk in it to make me feel better if something was wrong. It’s a comforting drink for me for sure, so I was more than willing to put down the java and give MYX teas a try. I only wish they had sent more! I got to try their St. Patrick’s Day green flavors, Green Jasmine Sunset and Green Pomegrante Mint. I honestly LOVED them both. It seriously made me reconsider my commitment to coffee. In my hectic life, it’s not often take the time to kick back and slowly sip an iced tea and with these teas I stepped out of the chaos and enjoyed my drink. I couldn’t wait to tell people about it. Truly, if you are a tea person, or not, try something new. This is worth it, you’ll be glad you did.

Organic BRAT

Are you familiar with the B.R.A.T. diet? It’s the diet recommendation from the pediatrician to help when one has stomach issues, to eat bland foods mainly bananas, rice, applesauce and toast. I recently got a chance to review a new product, Organic BRAT. The timing was perfect, as we went through the bought of the stomach flu at our house. Organic BRAT is a non-dairy drink that puts all the elements of the brat diet into a drink. After being sick, our little guy didn’t want to eat ANYTHING, and who could blame him? But he did drink the Organic BRAT and I felt good knowing that he had something in him that wouldn’t upset him tummy. He loved it and even asked for more when he was feeling better again. We got a sample to review, and so far his favorite flavor is the vanilla. I’ve seen it at our local Safeway I recommend having some on hand for anytime your little one isn’t quite feeling up to par or if the dreaded flu hits!

And Another Year Down

Time flies. Amazingly, another year has past and I’m now 38 years old! How did that happen? Still feel 20 something at heart, though. I’m blessed with an amazing family, incredible friends and so much love.

Got to spend the day doing mom things, that part doesn’t stop just because mama gets a year older, then took the boys to swimming while Dee, Mary and Michelle put family dinner together. Jason dropped off a gigantic cupcake cake (thanks Monica!) and my folks brought the Coldstone Ice Cream Cake. The kids were excited but all got along and a day with no fighting is a great day for me!

Big Kid Carlos

Carlos has officially started Kindergarten! Yes, we now have 2 boys in Kindergarten and it’s crazy. Sadly (but also happily) he no longer qualifies for his preschool. He’s overcome the speech delay he once had. Hard to remember back when speech was an issue for him, he is very clear now.

He has really grown up making this big move, he’s happier because he feels such a level of accomplishment. He walks down our hill each day to the bus stop and waits for the big bus to pick him up. He always comes home with a smile and can’t believe he now has (optional) homework!
Give him a pat on the back when you see him next, he’s doing a great job!

Cultural Study

The Island School (where Levi goes to kindergarten) is awesome! Each year they do a month long study of a specific country that kicks off with a big assembly. This year it’s Brazil. They study the food, the culture, the people, the customs….they even have passports that they got stamped by “customs officials”.

Levi’s class is the Jaguars, and he got to be the one to carry the Jaguar flag in and lead his class to the celebration. He took his job very seriously, couldn’t even get him to break a smile for a picture. He was proud to be given such a big job and he couldn’t have done it better. Way to go, Levi!

Clean Slate

Had a fun night on Friday night with a trip to Bay Hay and Feed for blueberry plants for the garden and lots of laughs with Mary and Alice at dinner.

Woke up Saturday morning, however, being hit head-on with the stomach flu. I was more than useless all day and Dee kept the big boys outside while I just had the little guys to deal with. We missed out on Kyler’s bday party (SO BUMMED) and I ended up going to bed by 7pm. The boys each made a little something and brought it in and I think I freaked them out by being so sick. Carlos brought in the thermometer and put his little hand on my forehead and said “Mama, your head is so hot it’s going to burn up my hand” He snuggled up with me and didn’t leave my side all night. Woke up this morning, feeling a ton better but with a hangover headache as if I’d been on a monsterous bender! All pain, no party doesn’t quite seem fair.
We’ve been trying to get caught up with laundry, get the house in order and get ready for the week but our 3 guys have been really tough. Guess having an off day the day before gave them the idea that they could act however they wanted today.
Just hoping that we can get back into routine and bring the chaos in this house down about 30 notches by tomorrow. Mama needs a break!

Need More Church Time

Carlos is quite the little adult these days, such an old soul. The things he says and wants to do really aren’t what the regular 5 year old boy tends to gravitate to. Nana asked if we would be willing to help out at the coffee hour at chuch last weekend and Carlos volunteered to go with me. Just before we were going to duck out of the service to start the setup, Carlos leaned over and whispered in my ear, “Why are we going to set up and serve all of these people when they could be serving me?”

Apparently we need to go to church more often!!!!

Spring

I love Spring! Just last weekend we jumped into the van and met Mary and Alice in Kingston to have crepes (yum!) and check out our friend, Michelle’s, toy store Lil’ Sprouts. It’s very cool, especially if you are into the ecofriendly stuff for the wee ones. I love that the sun is shining more, the flowers are popping up and some even blooming and we are able to take outings and not get soaked. Can’t help but smile and soak it up!
