One With Nature

So our Sunday was just about perfect. Started off with our traditional coffee at the Bakery, then came home and got to work on the garden. We had lots of weeds to pull, the beds were packed. Mary’s been working so hard on picking out the right seeds and making a planting calendar. This year should be a good one for our veggies. After a lot of hard work (believe me, we’re feeling it today) we got all the beds weeded and ’tilled. Now we’re onto the fertilizer and planting the seeds.
I had to leave for a bit to pick up our foster baby (2 months old, she’s baby #30 for us). We’ll have her for just a week but should be fun.
We had a wonderful steak dinner with Mary, Alice and Holly and got the boys ready for bed. Carlos has been fighting some really red, itchy eyes and last night after being out in the yard all day he was miserable. We’ve got some allergy drops for him and that helps some. Last night, however, he had more going on…a 102 degree fever. 😦 This morning he’s just not been himself and his fever spiked to 103.4. It’s so tough to see any of the guys sick and extra tough with a baby who wants to be held and a 4 year old who wants to be held. Looks like today’s a veg out in front of the tv and watch some movies kind of day.
If you want baby holding time, come on over! 🙂

Arrrgh

I almost forgot to post this cute picture…the boys had the BEST week of school ever, they studied pirates! Imagine their joy when we let them wear their pirate hats and shirts to school. We are the mean moms who don’t let them bring toys (well, I caved and Carlos did ride his skateboard to get in line on Thursday) and they had so many pirate things they thought teacher Kathy could use to teach the class, but we compromised on the hats and shirts. Give us your best “arrrgh”!
It’s Spring Break now and one of my Facebook friends said it best “not-Spring, not-break…that’s all I’m saying” With our boys all having different issues, one thing is common among them all and that’s sticking to a schedule. I absolutely love the time I will get this week with the boys, they are at a fun age and always coming up with some goofy scheme or another but by the end of this “break” I am pretty sure I will feel like I have been pecked to death by ducks.

Are You Green?

VOTE EARTH…YOUR LIGHT SWITCH IS YOUR VOTE!

THIS SATURDAY 28 MARCH AT 8.30PM YOU CAN VOTE EARTH BY SWITCHING OFF YOUR LIGHTS FOR ONE HOUR – EARTH HOUR.

http://www.earthhour.org/home/

To be honest, I’m all about doing my best to be green although I know there is a ton more I could be doing. This is a great excuse for us to slow down and unplug for an hour and snuggle and read with the boys by candlelight. That’s my favorite thing to do.

It’ll be strange to look over at Seattle’s lights and see the Space Needle and Metropolitan Building dark.

Superheros at Safeway

So we had to make a run to Safeway a couple of nights ago…and the boys were dead set on going in their Halloween costumes. So, we took Spiderman, Batman and Superman shopping. What a trip! They were actually pretty good for the most part, we got our shopping done and even posed for a picture with Cindy, their favorite checker. She’s been amazing with them over the years and they adore her.
Anyhow, if you saw some superheroes at the grocery store….it was our crew!

Pranksters

So I have to admit that the practical joker side of me was beaming with pride this afternoon. Here’s how it all went down. We had a busy morning taking Carlos to the dr for possible pink eye (turns out it’s probably just allergies so we’re trying those eye drops first) and I had a mom’s meeting. Dee’s in ultra cleaning mode, so that meant that the couch and the fridge got pulled out and vacuumed behind and all. I’m not too proud to show you how nasty it was back there, we’re all friends, right?
Anyhow, got back from the meeting and packed up the kids to go see Monsters vs. Aliens (my review was it was ok, the kids liked it) and have a bite to eat then came home to keep going on the cleaning. Trey completely crashed on the floor and Levi and Carlos took full advantage of his passed out state and covered him with little stickers. It was hilarious! Moral of the story…better beware if you fall asleep in our house! I’m guessing it’ll be frat house-like before too long. 🙂

What Color Is He?

So 2 of our boys have beautiful, brown skin…that is, when we are good parents and lotion them. Otherwise they are fairly gray. With the pace our life goes at, sometimes we forget the lotion. I don’t know if you can see it well in this picture but here’s Carlos with one leg lotioned and one not-so-much.

Suppose this isn’t noteworthy, just something to post!

Here’s a cute little song from Trey and Carlos…it’s an Island School favorite that we listen to in the car ALL THE TIME. Glad I caught this performance to share. The song is called “Mama’s Soup Surprise” and I posted the lyrics at the end of this post. I think the boys love it because it says “camel rears” in it…anything with the words “rear” “underwear” or “poop” will have our guys belly laughing for hours. Heaven help us if someone burps. Ahhhhhh, ya gotta love boys!

When I was a little kid
I never liked to eat
Mom would put things on my plate
And I’d dump ’em on her feet
But then one day she made this soup
I ate it all in bed
I asked her what she put in it
And this is what she said:

“Oh, chicken lips and lizard hips
And alligator eyes
Monkey legs and buzzard eggs
And salamander thighs
Rabbit ears and camel rears
And tasty toenail pies
Stir ’em all together
And it’s mama’s soup surprise”

I went into the bathroom
And I stood beside the sink
I said, “I’m feeling slightly ill
And I think I’d like a drink”

Mama said, “I’ve just the thing
I’ll get it in a wink
It’s full of lots of protein
And vitamins, I think”

“Oh, chicken lips and lizard hips
And alligator eyes
Monkey legs and buzzard eggs
And salamander thighs
Rabbit ears and camel rears
And tasty toenail pies
Stir ’em all together
And it’s mama’s soup surprise”

Saturday Club

Woo hoo, last night was the boy’s night to do Saturday Club again. It had been months since we’d been able to do it last and they were so looking forward to it. No tears when we left this time, they had a ball at the Kid’s Museum and even got their faces painted. Came home and they wrestled a little before bed.
While they were gone, Dee and I took a quick trip to the Evil Empire and Home Depot then went to the movies. Saw “Knowing” with Nicolas Cage and it was really good….until it wasn’t. I can watch sci-fi with the best of them but don’t pretend you are a “normal” movie then bust out the sci-fi ending (reminded me of the latest Raiders movie). All in all, it was great to have some time with Dee, we really don’t get too much of that.

It Started Out

To be honest…this started out as a contest I found where I could win a year’s worth of groceries and who wouldn’t want that? Anyhow, it is a little essay writing contest where you write a story about an amazing act of someone you know. You and the person can both actually win.
Anyhow, here’s the kicker…it takes votes. So here’s the link to my essay about Teacher Kathy, I would love your votes but also encourage you to write a little something about someone who has made a difference for you!
