When I Grow Up…

Dee and I had a treat last night and got to go out to see a movie. We’d read the Twilight books and were excited to see how they did the movie. It was pretty good, most of the characters were in different than how we pictured them in our minds but the story followed the book and we are jazzed about seeing the next one so they did something right. When we go out, we tell the boys we are going on a date. They always want to come on our date and it’s tough to explain that it’s mama time.
So today we were delivering Trey’s preschool fund raiser wreaths and a friend asked Carlos what he wanted to be when he grew up. He said “a mama” and I said “uh…really? why?” and he said “because they get to go on lots of dates”. I about burst out laughing, what house is he living in? Does he not see that we RARELY get to go on dates? It was sweet, though, and flattering. I couldn’t dare break it to him that he’ll never be a mama but I’m sure he’ll be a great dad someday.

The Nest

So Dee and I have finally had it with being kicked and pushed out of bed and losing our covers, so we have banned the boys from our bed. Honestly, it’s been going on a LONG time and we’re exhausted. After volleyball last night we went out for drinks and one of the v’ball ladies told me about how they made a “nest” at the end of their bed for the kids to come sleep if they wanted to be close to them. Tonight we made the nest, and Carlos (although VERY hesitant and upset) is curled up in it and fast asleep. I’m going to laugh if we wake up in the morning to find all three boys in the nest!

Family Party

This weekend we had a Burr Family get together. It’s been quite awhile since we’ve all been together and it was fun! It was also my aunt’s 50th birthday so we did some cake and ice cream. The boys thought it was funny that the cake had black icing the turned their lips and tongues black.
The Apple Cup was the main attraction, we had a combination of Cougs and Dawgs in the crowd and neither were too disappointed since both the teams are struggling so much this season. The game wasn’t all that stellar, but at least both teams were equally bad and there were times of hope both ways as well. Kinda sad commentary. Uncle John ended up happy, the rest of us…well, you know how it went.

Peeecan Pie

So the boys and I had a conversation in the van the other day about Thanksgiving and what they were thankful for. It started out as “my legos” or “the Rescue Heroes” and then got sweet and they talked about the people in their lives. Levi came up with a great idea to make something for his teachers. We did construction paper handprint turkey cards that were simple “I am thankful for YOU” and the boys helped (kinda) making pecan pies. I’ve got 6 pies made, 2 more to make tomorrow…ran out of pecans…and a sweet deal on the side with my friend Gay. She’s going to trade a organic homemade pumpkin pie for a pecan pie. Like I said, SWEET DEAL!

Question of the Day

I’m part of a “blog party” and the question of the day is…”Do you shop on Black Friday?” My answer may surprise you.

Yes, I am all about finding a great deal, entering giveaways and sweepstakes and clipping coupons. It saves us bundles of money every month. There was a time when I would get up at 5am and head over to the mall and get all the doorbuster deals (the ornaments, the little trinkets, the gift cards, etc) but usually only end up with 1 or 2 of them since they go so quickly. These days I treasure my sleep. I am into finding deals more than ever, but the thought of getting up so early to save $5 just doesn’t appeal to me. I’ve realized it’s all just “stuff” and in the end, do I really need it? Probably not.
So to answer the question I’ll start with a little history. A few years ago, my mom and I started a tradition of taking a day and going Christmas shopping together. Usually someplace other than the local mall, maybe even the big city. It was fun, we even stayed overnight at a fancy hotel and visited the martini bar there and really enjoyed the mother/daughter bonding time. With money the way it is now, it’ll be a day trip but one I’m SO looking forward to and it may just be on Black Friday!

One, Two, …PIN!

Yes, there are really three boys in this picture. When they wrestle is seems as though they are one blob of fuzzy jammies rolling around. Trey got pinned tonight, he may be the biggest but it’s still tough to win when you are tag teamed by your older brothers and tickled. He put up one hell of a fight, though.
