I Can Sew

I bet you’re amazed….yeah, buttons are just about the extent of my sewing capabilities but here’s my latest attempt at being a seamstress. Levi picked out this cool castle theme fabric to cover his sling, it’s much cooler than the navy blue one. I did it by hand, it’s not perfect, but he likes it and that’s what counts!
He’s doing well, it still really hurts and he has trouble getting comfortable to sleep but the baby vicotin helps that. I think the hardest part is that we’re all still trying not to bump into him but the boys forget and try to snuggle up to him or wrestle and we’re having lots of tears. Tears from Levi because it hurts and tears from the others who feel bad that they hurt him. It’s going to take a lot of getting used to.

Levi….broken

So while we were packing up the campsite this morning, the kids were across the way playing at the playground. They were doing great, but all of the sudden we heard Levi crying. I ran over and he told me that he had been hanging upside down on the pullup bar and let go because he wanted to catch himself with his hands. It all went terribly wrong and he landed on his shoulder. He’s a total trooper, he kept his arm next to his side but said that it was ok and a little later in the day he even lifted it up some. We thought we would wait a little bit to see how he did, but while we were at an Island School function he was wimpering and I knew we needed to get it checked out. Turns out he broke his collarbone. OUCH (been there, done that)! After a long wait at the ER, we got a sling for him that is gigantic and some pain meds to help him through the night. Now we just have to get some button up shirts and figure out what the heck he’s going to wear to sleep in. Tonight he’s wearing the same shirt he wore today.
Keep out little guy in your thoughts for a speedy recovery.

Camping Again

We just love packing up and camping with the boys…Fay Bainbridge is our favorite spot since it’s so close to home. We can swing by and change clothes or grab a forgotten toy without it being a huge hassle. Plus it’s close enough that our friends and family come by to visit us. We’re all totally beat but it was a fun weekend.

The boys had a funny thing happen, we had a “pet” chipmunk that we fed bits of bread. We put some in the boy’s Rescue Heroes car and the little guy actually got in and looked like he was driving.

This week starts Trey’s first real day with me leaving him at preschool…gasp….and Carlos and Levi have a back to school potluck and a classroom visit.

Monkey Bread

Our big monkeys were busy in the kitchen with Nana and Papa today when I took Trey to a preschool preview at his “castle” (it’s actually at St. Barnabus church but he thinks it’s a castle and couldn’t be more excited). I picked them up before the banana bread was done but we’re looking forward to having a taste tomorrow. They sure had fun licking the beaters!
Trey had a great day of school, he painted, did playdoh, played outside and met some of the kids that will be in his class. He’s been watching Levi and Carlos get dropped off at school for the past couple years and he just wants me to drop him and leave. He’s growing up so fast but despite his terrible 3’s stage, he’s a super sweet kid most the time and he’ll always be our Baby Trey.

Love and Marriage

Funniest thing last night…
Carlos asked Alice if she would marry him. That’s not the funny part, it’s a shocker, since when she was 4 she had said she was going to marry ALL of the boys when she grew up and Carlos was the one who said “you can marry Levi and you can marry Trey but no me!”
Anyhow, last night he asked her to marry him and she said “why yes” and then proceeded to ask…”Do you have a jewel?”
They learn early, don’t they?

A Thief in the Grand Forest

Well, to be honest the there were 5 thieves…and they were us! We found an albino caterpillar, who could resist taking that little guy home to live in the confines of the boy’s bug house. I’m guessing he/she will live at least until morning but we’re justifying the relocation because how long could an albino caterpillar live in the wild? Natural selection being what it is and all. I do have to say that it is very well loved here and he/she wouldn’t have felt that kind of love in the Grand Forest.

We’ve been pretty low key this week, just staying close to home and not doing too much of anything. Getting ready for school to start and trying to get a little more organized before that all happens.

We tried…and we’re about 1/2 way through the dreaded trying on of fall clothes. The fun of living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest is that summer lasts for about 2 months and then the drizzle and gray skies settle in. I’m still hoping for a few more days of sun but we’ll see. We were hoping to finish trying on clothes and all today but we had total meltdown and decided naps were much more important. So we’ve got

Still trying to figure out Halloween costumes for the boys. They want to be pirates again but how boring is that? We’ll see, we just love Halloween and costumes and decorating and all so maybe we’ll come up with something the boys are excited about and us, too. Anyone have ideas for us? We’ve done Winnie the Pooh and Tigger (Trey wasn’t born yet), then Spiderman, Superman and Batman then Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2 and last year was Pirates.
