Happy Birthday, Holly

So we had a great evening tonight at our good friends Alisa and Holly’s. It was Holly’s 43rd birthday and she wanted to have a lesbian dance party, how fun! We met their new neighbors who were fantastic and Mary and Alice joined us all, too. I captured some funny, funny video of Holly trying to coax Dee into dancing. Dee insists she doesn’t dance but Holly would not take no for an answer. Dee’s gonna kill me for posting this, but it’s great stuff. Click the links if you wanna see the footage:

Dee DOES dance!

Happy Birthday, Holly!

All in all a great evening with the best of friends.

Zucchini Races

Here are our works of art…the zucchini racers! We pulled out the hot glue gun early this morning and got to work. Trey won the “Best Chase scene” zucchini before the races even started. They did it in heats, by weight. Our guys were in three consecutive heats and it was really tough to get them up there in time. Levi’s zucchini went part way down the ramp then took out it’s competitors…Carlos’ lost it’s back wheels before the race even started so his race wasn’t too successful and Trey let go of his way too early….so he was disqualified. All in all a super fun time but no big winners. The boys all got ribbons and were happy. We’ve got some great ideas for next year for sure…no more hot glue guns and bigger zucchinis!

Where Did You Sleep Last Night?

It was like musical beds at our place last night….we all started out in our own beds, then Carlos came into our bed in the middle of the night (as always), then Dee got up to use the bathroom and in came Levi to sleep with me. I’m sandwiched between Levi and Carlos and I can’t turn over but I hear Dee come in and then leave. It’s now 5am. Levi is fidgiting and eventually I boot him out of bed and back to his own. By this time I’m wide awake. When I get up, see that Dee has scrunched into Trey’s bed. I turn on the news and Trey comes out of his room crying about how Mama Dee left his bed, and he snuggles with me on the couch. Dee had returned to our bed. How’s a mama supposed to sleep in when musical beds is going on!?!?!?

What A Deal

Just a heads up to the Bainbridge types….Rite Aid has a TON of kid sized school supplies for 50% off. We got the boys mini tape dispensers (a 2 pack) for 25 cents each, mini pens for 25 cents each and many notebooks and more at dirt cheap prices. Our boys LOVE notebooks, they will sit in the kitchen for long periods of time and write notes, their letters and shopping lists to help me out (granted, they are only random letters but the boys are trying!)
They are going to be SO jazzed to get tape…I know it sounds weird but they love tape and they would waste massive amounts of it if given the chance. I always cringe at the “zzzzzip!” noise when they have a roll and pull a foot out at a time. The little rolls will be perfect and I don’t care if they use the whole thing.
Just a heads up!

Preschool Visit

Preschool preview today…first Levi in the morning, then Carlos in the afternoon. Both are excited to go back to school and really missed their teachers and friends. Levi loves the new airport they have to play with and Carlos made a jellyfish out of K’nex and then cooked up some fancy food in the play kitchen. 4 more goodnights before the REAL mama taxi starts up and I’m up at Wilkes 4 times a day, with stops at Island School and sometimes St. Barnabus and Jefferson and Kristian’s grandparents on the way!

9/11

We were out of t.p. this morning and I had to go to the store at the butt crack of dawn so I thought that I would grab a coffee while we were out. At our little coffee place they always play the news and this morning it was all 9/11 coverage. Mary and I were sitting there talking about it this morning and both of us vividly remember where we were, what we were thinking, etc when it happened.
Dee and I were on the ferry going to Seattle (I was working at Clipper and she was working in Kirkland) and heard on the radio that a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. My first thought was “Damn, I have an ass for a boss (NOT Beth, seriously people…DB) who is totally not going to understand me being late, we have to drive right past the World Trade Center to get to Clipper. How am I going to get to work?” If you don’t know Seattle, we have a World Trade Center right on the waterfront and I just assumed that was what they were talking about, I figured a small plane had lost control and gone into it. Little did we know the magnitude of it all. It was a very scary day at work, watching all of it unfold on the internet and sitting in the Port of Seattle building feeling like that wasn’t the safest place in the world to be, a prime target. Our boss, the ass…NOT Beth, wouldn’t dream of letting us go home and we even thought about a walkout. It was strange how silent the skies were, how sullen the mood was and people just didn’t know what to do or think.
Patriatism was at an all-time high and I remember going to Vegas awhile later and watching the fountains at the Bellagio dance to “Proud to be an American” and the many not-so-dry eyes around us. People changed on 9/11, people really changed.

Like A Newborn Baby

Seriously….if you ever wondered what it’s like to have a 5 year old with a broken collarbone, it’s just like having a newborn baby. Getting up all hours of the night to care for them is just the start.

All in all, it’s exhausting! Have to give a huge thanks to our MNMs friends who have graciously offered to bring us some meals. I didn’t realize that we were not really doing dinner (does cereal? McDonalds? Corndog? really count as a meal) so this will help out a ton. I’ve been fighting a cold on top of getting up at night with Levi so by dinner time I’m beat.

Many have asked how he’s doing and yesterday was a really tough one for him. As a mama is makes me worry that more may be going on. We gave him a dose of baby vicotin during the day, he napped and seemed much improved but since it was day 3 he shouldn’t have been getting worse. Doctor’s appt today, going to push for more x-rays and see what’s going on with our brave little guy. He’s learning better how to tell him brothers to keep their distance so that’s a bonus, plus I rented some new ScoobyDoo and Justice League (Superman, Batman, Spiderman) dvds so he can be mellow. I figure a few days with the tv isn’t going to hurt him.

Went to a great picnic for the Wilkes preschool last night, what fun to have the kids all playing together and the parents getting to chit chat. Great food, too! The boys love their teachers and were excited to see them again. I forgot my camera, otherwise we would have had some great pictures.

Off to hit the store real quick for some much needed coffee…and toilet paper, we’re down to the last roll and that would be bad. Obviously grocery shopping hasn’t been high on the to-do list. Then the big boys have an hour of preschool each so today’s busy again.

Pupcake, anyone?

Pupcake is Levi’s term for cupcake, always has been…too darn cute! I saw these in a magazine and we have a school potluck tonight and I couldn’t pass up the chance to make them. Of course, in the magazine they say “back to school” on them but how the heck are you supposed to write all that on a little chocolate covered graham cracker? The apples are Skittles with a dab of green frosting and the chalk (although it looks like valium pills) are a cherry certs candy. I think they turned out cute!

Big Preschooler Trey

Trey was SO ready to go to school Tuesday morning, he’s been watching his brothers go for awhile now and he really wants to be a big boy, too. Nana came to pick him up and he was so proud putting on his backpack and heading off to the “castle school”. Nana reported that he chatted about school the whole way there and when they got there, they other kids were in circle and he ran in with his arms open and said “Ta Da!” That’s our boy!
