Proud Carlos

Carlos has been working hard on using gentle hands (not hitting) and his teachers set up a star chart for at home. It’s working very well. When he earns 25 stars he gets to choose a reward. Not a toy or something to buy, but something to do. This time he chose to paint with Dee. He filled up the chart today and is SO excited to paint. He and Dee will be painting the dining room over the weekend. Way to go, Carlos.

Blessed

We are blessed. A beautiful sunrise always makes me stop and appreciate how great life is. We have love and laughter and joy. I was feeling all warm inside thinking about all this, then Trey brought me smack back into reality with a temper tantrum. So let me revise….we have love and laughter and joy and a 2 year old (who we love with all of our hearts but wow, can he throw a fit)!

Worker Bees

Our place is getting a makeover. We are getting rid of all the crap that’s been piling up in the office and making it a, well, office again. Half will be for Dee’s business and the other half is going to be for crafting/scrapbooking/gifts (that I buy year round) and whatever else needs to be there. I rearranged the playroom and took some toys from downstairs up to the playroom. I emptied out the entertainment center lower shelves so now some of the boy’s toys are hidden and they will hopefully not just dump ALL the toys out and not know what to play with.

I’m excited to get some of this done, we’ve been working hard and soon it will be time to sit back and relax. HA HA HA, like that will ever happen.

Tomorrow’s going to be fun. Trey and I are going to go swimming while the big boys are in school. Every time we drive by the pool, Trey asks if we’re going to swim. He LOVES it and he had to sit all summer while everyone else did lessons. So this’ll be our special time, Wednesday mornings, to go swim. After swimming we are going to Nana’s and walk to Wilkes to get the boys from school, walk back, eat lunch at Nana’s and then go get haircuts and goof around and shop. Looking forward to it!

The picture proves my eye crossing is still working to get the boys to smile for pictures. The video is their true reaction to it. Easily amused for sure. It’s funny to watch Levi and Carlos try to cross their eyes, too.

The Color of Our Skin

We had our first conversation about skin color the other day. I’m actually surprised it hadn’t come up sooner with our diverse family. It’s a non-issue. Anyhow, it was an interesting conversation between Levi and I. The boys had just finshed showering and Dee was getting Carlos and Trey dressed and Levi had come back in to go to the bathroom while I hopped through the shower. For some reason he likes to come in and chat in the bathroom. He said, “You know, Mama K, Carlos and Trey match. They are both brown. I match you and Mama Dee”. I could only agree and point out his observation. I thought it was sweet, and smart. Total innocence.
Last night we had Dee’s first homemade pizza. She did the crust and all from scratch and she did a great job. She was very proud. 🙂 We will all look forward to eating more of her creations.

Chuck E. Cheese Revisited

I have found the secret to taking a picture and getting multiple children to smile in it. Wish I would have figured it out sooner, as we have struggled with family shots (Christmas card pics, etc) for years. Basically you set the kids up, hold the camera steady and cross your eyes. It works, it seriously works and it works every time. This picture of the boys and Alice is cool, but looks to me like conjoined quadruplets.
On Wednesday we went to Chuck E. Cheese with Nana. Suprisingly it was a good place for the boys to be. There weren’t too many people there and they got to run around and play and actually have some freedom. We’ve found a new career track for Carlos. He wants to be a jockey…he was the only one of the boys who could actually ride this horse ride and he was good at it and didn’t want to get off. We’ll see, he’ll have the right build, be athletic and he’s certainly competitive. Trey liked Whack-A-Mole and Levi found a little girlfriend and convinced her to play some air hockey with him. All in all, they had a great time. We had some tokens left so I took the boys yesterday to play. The pizza was SO nasty the first time (even Trey wouldn’t eat it and that’s saying a lot) so we ate before we went and the boys just played. Now, if we could only get Dee to come with us sometime…..
Happy weekend! We get date night tonight while the boys go to Nana/Papa’s for dinner and to watch Ratatouille. It’s cute, my dad is so excited about it that he’s going down to the movie theater to get “real” popcorn for them. They are going to have fun, they loved the movie in the theater and have been waiting patiently to see it on DVD. Don’t know what Dee and I will do, probably dinner and a movie. Any suggestions? Hate to pay for a stinker movie when we don’t get out often.

We Have a Window

Dee got the new window in! We still have a gaping hole in the wall but she’s waiting for the siding to dry out before she puts it all back together. The boys have been trying to “help” and are amazed that we don’t have part of the wall. I can’t wit to have it back.

Enough on the home improvement…I have a virus. Well, not me but my computer. It’s BAD and I’ve been working on it for 2 days now. Just about to toss it in the bay. Off to get the boys dressed and let the computer run it’s healing programs!

Mama Dee Went Mad Today

It started out with a vision. To replace a window in the dining room. Now, we have a gaping hole in the house the size of Cleveland. It’s to be expected when you live in a house as old as ours. The window was leaking, the walls had dry rot and were mushy. Turned out to be a bigger project than Dee anticipated. Dee and I don’t do do-it-yourself projects together, it doesn’t work and almost always ends up close to divorce. So, I’ve stayed as far away from the dining room today as I can. Mary’s advice to me this morning, knowing how Dee and I are about projects involving the house was this, “Dee knows what she’s doing. It may not seem logical to you and I but the best thing for your marriage would be for you to babygate yourself and the kids in the living room and stay there for the day while Dee puts this mess back together.” Golden advice.

Carlos is having a rough go of the time change and his little body is not adjusting. Both he and Trey have been up at the butt-crack of dawn for the last two mornings, and in that I mean pre-6am. I NEED SOME SLEEP! For some reason I’ve been having creepy, disturbing dreams plus I haven’t been falling asleep easily so the getting up early is rough. Hoping they will adjust here soon and our sleep patterns will get back to normal (or at least normal for us). Pull it together here boys!
Tomorrow should be fun. We’re meeting Nana at Chuck E. Cheese for lunch. It’s a nightmare of a place, I know, but I’m hoping a Wednesday lunch won’t be so busy. The boys are going to love it. They think video games are cool even without any money in them so it shouldn’t be all that expensive. As long as Trey doesn’t pull a “Nathan” and refuse to come out of the tubes when it’s time to go then we’re good.

I Rock!!!!

So I went to the Evil Empire today to do some after Halloween shopping, the picture does NOT do it all justice. Who knew that I was going to hit the motherload?!?!? Seriously, I saved 86% today and got a TON of stuff. Spent $44.40 and filled the kitchen table with decorations. Lots for outside, some for inside. Most animated or light up and a couple of costumes. A full size grim reaper, a huge talking face in a ball, most was $2 each or 4 for $1. Carlos got 3 new pairs of underwear for 25 cents. He doesn’t care if they are Halloween, they have bats on them and they glow in the dark, what boy wouldn’t love that?! So all of this stuff, two cartfuls, was going to be for Dee for Christmas but I couldn’t wait and gave it to her right when I got home. What can I say, I love her.

The other pictures are from last night when we got the boys some new glasses at Target (on clearance for 25 cents each and we just pop the lenses out). They have been wearing them a lot. Super geeks, yes they are, but a quarter well spent. Dee also had fun watching them in the tub and catching up on reading the latest “Us” magazine.

We also saw Bee Movie…cute, predictable, the kids have fun.
