Feeling Happy

So if you know me well, you know that I don’t like anyone/anything to wake me up before I’m ready to get up. Dee learned that WAY early and vowed to never do it again. I’m a pretty mellow person but apparently can get somewhat nasty when this happens, through no fault of my own since I’m basically still groggy and not awake. Anyhow, the reasoning being is that once I’m awake, I can’t fall back to sleep. This has changed in a big way since having kids and we’ve been up and down most nights for the last 4 years for some reason. This morning was an exception to my rule….first thing I hear is Carlos’ little voice saying, “Mama K, can I lie with you?” and I said yes and he said “Oh thank you, Mama K” and snuggled up with me. It was a GREAT way to wake up. Carlos is surely our little snuggler and the fact that he was polite when he was basically still asleep gives me hope that manners have TRULY sunk in!

Happy Tuesday! The calm before the storm (Halloween)…a picture from our front porch this morning.

Punkins!

We carved our pumpkins last night. What a hoot. The boys were trying to help but decided it would be better to pretend that the tiny saws were swords, so we quickly stopped that game and got then out some art supplies. We had Halloween stampers that I got on clearance last year and they stamped their little hearts out while we carved their names into each of their pumpkins and did our own personal masterpieces. Mine was a little family of 5 jack-o-lanterns while Dee freehanded “creepy” with bats. Of course we had to go out and “light them up” as Levi says and admire them. Carlos and Trey were in undies and boots so we didn’t stay out long but they loved it and we got a few pics.
The boys are getting super hyped up about Halloween and the energy level at our place is through the roof. I love Halloween and can’t wait to get them all dressed up and go trick or treating!

Jumping in the Leaves

We got to go up to Stefanie and Joe’s place tonight (neighbors and friends) to their 4th annual pumpkin carving party. What fun! Joe had raked up the maple leaves into a huge pile and waited until all the kids were at the party, then counted to three and they all dove in. Our boys thought it was just about the coolest thing ever. They threw leaves, jumped in over and over and buried eachother in them. The grown ups carved many pumpkins while the kids were busy playing. Our little guys were tired from the Wilkes Carnival earlier in the day, a walk along the beach and no naps so we brought them home. A nice warm bath and a warm cup of tea (yes, they drank some Soothing Moments tea, we thought it might mellow them out a little) and they are now content watching Polar Express before the head off to bed.
What a great day we had, truly enjoyed spending time together today.

Yeah Trey!

Trey went #2 on the potty! It was a BIG day in our house. The older boys were so good about praising him and high fives happened all around. We made the call the Nana and Papa and Trey told them the good news. He was most excited to get candy and a new Hot Wheels car. He’s had many successes now on the potty and he’s pantsless this morning so we’re hoping that’ll inspire as well. Could backfire on us, we’ll just have to wait and see.
I never would have thought I’d be writing a blog about the toilet, seriously, it’s just not polite conversation but as a parent it’s big news. If we could get Trey out of diapers I would be one happy mama.
Nana and Papa came over last night and brought Nana’s amazing chili. It was so good, everytime they bring a meal it takes me back to childhood and I have such fond memories and had some delicious food. Dad did the BBQing, Broccoli Beef and omelets and Mom did the rest.
Nana also brought Halloween cookies for the boys to decorate and they did a lovely job. Carlos just ate the gumdrops off the top of his, Trey ate the gumdrops before he even got a cookie and Levi meticulously decorated the cookie and carefully ate it. We watched our family slide show DVD from when the boys were babies and the boys played with their new “Diesel 10 aka Pinchy” train cars. Trey had a bit of a fit when it was time to put Pinchy (and himself) to bed.

Random Pics

I’ll write more later…just wanted to put up some random pictures (as someone told me it has been DAYS of all writing, no pictures). A preview of the Halloween pirate costumes, Levi and Carlos faking sleep, Trey really sleeping and Levi cuddling up with Abbie.

Where Do Babies Come From?

We thought the boys were a little young for this conversation and in all honesty they never really asked where babies come from. After reading “Llama llama mad at Mama” and “Llama, llama Red Pajama” to the preschool class today we hopped in the car to start our busy afternoon. Dee had to pee, so we made a quick stop at Liberty Ridge (where she used to work) so she could use the facilities. While we were there, we saw her old co-workers and Rebecca who is pregnant. She chatted with the boys for a bit and they were amazed at her belly and when she said a baby was in it. They TOTALLY didn’t get it, and wondered how it got in her belly. Carlos asked “Did you eat the baby?” Favorite line of the day by far.

We had a great lunch with Ruth, Levi’s old social worker. It was cool to catch up, I mean, we used to see her once a month for 2 years and now it’s pretty rare when we get a chance to see her. Its good to catch up and hear about her family. We miss seeing her!

Carlos has speech today and apparently did really well. He’s working with Julia at this point, yippee, and he did “st” and “g” sounds. That’s new for him. He’s really working hard with his speech and we even catch him saying sounds on his own.

We got the boys pictures done in their pirate costumes. After a long wait they got taken and turned out pretty darn cute. We’ve got some handsome pirates who jump into character at the drop of a hat. Can you say, scurvy dog? Arrrgh.

Ended the day with the Foster Parent Halloween party. The boys won second place in the costume contest (they got 1st last year) and won a gift certificate to Walmart! They did a cookie-walk and ate some Halloween foods. All in all I think they had a good time.

They are crashed now, no fuss at bedtime tonight!

I'm Good at This

Freaking myself out…that’s what I’m good at. Carolyn came over for dinner and to hang out. Dee had to head back to work for a little while tonight. When Carolyn was leaving she said that there was a car parked just outside our driveway. She couldn’t tell if there was someone in the car or not. So, she drives off and I go around the house locking doors and hearing funky noises that I am sure are someone trying to break into the house. Not knowing just who was in the car, or if there was someone in the car, I called 911. They were pretty rude, but Dee came home just as I was talking with them so they didnt have anyone drive by to check out the car. Just seems weird for someone to park right by our house, but apparently there was a party down the road. I did a great job of freaking myself out, though, that’s for sure.

Tomorrow is HECTIC and we will be running around all day. Gonna be crazy. Boys are going to school, Trey and I will probably hit the library or something. Then I read at the preschool, drive to Silverdale to have lunch with Ruth (Levi’s old social worker), then take Carlos to speech, get changed into the pirate costumes and get Halloween pictures done at Penney’s then head to the Foster Parent Conference Halloween party. We’ll see how the boys do with so many things to do. All fun, but still….

:(

I think Levi’s outgrowing naptime….NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! He’s been staying up until 10-11pm each night for the last week or so. He’s not goofing around, he’s just laying in bed quiet and awake. He’s such a bear when he doesn’t nap, this is going to be dreadful. Couldn’t last forever.
