Starbucks anyone?

A few pictures to start our busy weekend….welcome to Baby (2 months old who will be with us a short time). Carlos’ new favorite pastime is making faces at the baby. He’s going to be a great daddy someday. Last night Baby was fussing and Carlos ran over and said, “It’s ok, Baby, I’m right here”. Very sweet.

Carlos also was up bright and early this morning and got to go to Safeway with Mama D to get coffee, juice and doughnuts. He actually got a little Starbucks of his own and couldn’t have been happier. It’s the Guatamalan thing!

Busy day today…farmer’s market, Gabe’s birthday party and Jillie’s wedding!

Date Night is the best!

I can’t believe it’s already Wednesday…the long weekend really messed me up. Not in a bad way, it was great to have an extra day but my mind keeps thinking it’s Tuesday. Monday we did coffee with Margaret (that we usually do on Sundays so that helped mess me up!) which was great as always. The boys turned into little demons on Monday, we did coffee, went to Nana and Papa’s for a tasty lunch and then napped a little and headed over for a fun Labor Day BBQ at Alisa and Holly’s.

Last night we ate our freshly caught crab. YUM! It was nice, we fed the boys a little early and they watched a movie while we had a relaxing dinner with Mary. It was nice to chat and hang out and have the boys fairly content in the next room. We put them to bed and chatted a bit more, it was really nice.

Today we had the follow up for Carlos’ testing with the preschool. He did great, actually cooperated and worked hard for an hour with the speech testing. I did a behavioral assessment while Carlos was in the other room. That proved interesting. Apparently some of his behaviors are indicators for ADHD. That was a surprise to hear for sure. I’m not sure I buy it, but only time will tell. We got back tomorrow for more testing.

Dee and I got a rare date night tonight since my mom was willing to watch the boys while we caught a movie. Saw the Bourne Ultimatum and loved it. We need to go re-rent the first two Bourne movies, we’ve seen them but it’s been awhile. We’re stuffed with popcorn and red vines and ready for bed…but the break was great, a couple hours here and there with nobody needing anything from you was much needed for both of us. It’s hard to fathom if you’ve never had 3 little ones who are “on” you all day, but sometimes you just need some space. We got a warm welcome on the return home, though, which is always sweet. I think they enjoyed the break from us as well.

The Shark Whisperers

So we had the BEST day today….drove to Tacoma to Ole & Charlie’s Marina to meet up with our friends, Jenn and Rob and to spend the day on their boat. The boys got their pirate garb on (as did Jenn and Rob) and we headed out. First we set the crab pots, then anchored across the harbor, ate some lunch and went fishing for sharks. We caught them, too! Dee started out with one that was about 1 1/2 feet long but feisty. Then I caught a couple of bullheads, Jenn caught the monster 3 1/2 foot shark and I followed with one that was about 2 1/2 feet long. The boys were impressed with the sharks and even got to touch them! Levi’s favorite part of the day was picking out which herring to go on the lines. We went and hauled up the crab pots and had success, got 9 keeper crab!

So much fun was had by all, we can’t wait to get back out on the water, hopefully we’ll be invited back soon! It’s time to crash………..

Britney Spears…..

Yeah, Britney did it and so did we (although we only let the kids drive across the yard and not on a major highway). The kids helped and drove all three cars to the backyard so we could wash them…3 for 3, with kid help. They did a good job, too. Not too shabby.

Also last night had a nice, relaxing dinner with Nana and Papa and Holly Hall. Ate outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather but seems like summer is almost over.

Pennies for Peace

We are getting the boys involved in the Pennies for Peace drive to raise money for building schools in Pakistan and hoping our friends/family can help out. If you haven’t read, Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson, go get it…it’s the true story of this amazing man’s journey to build a school in a remote part of Pakistan and now he has gone on to build 55 schools and counting. He’s coming to speak on Bainbridge at the end of the month and I can’t wait to hear him. Anyhow, this is where our pennies will go.

What can you do to help? It’s easy…all you have to do is SAVE YOUR PENNIES and the boys and I will come by to collect them (they have decorated collection containers, they will help count out what they collect and will drop them off to the donation center). No amount too small, this is about teaching the boys about charity and helping other people. It’s going to be interesting because they love their coins and giving them up might be a struggle, but they are also excited about the idea of other kids having a new school to go to.
That’s the deal…let us know if you want to participate. We will be collecting pennies all week next week and the following week as well. If you are from out of town and still want to donate…you could send a dollar bill and I will exchange it for pennies at the bank.

Thanks,
Kendra
