Laundry is done, bags are packed and we are SO close to heading out the door. Fingers are still crossed that our flights will be painless and not cancelled. Apparently we will have no problem getting into Denver but it’s the getting from Denver to Montrose that might be an issue since it’s a small plane.

Anyhow, we’ll get the boys down for their naps, have a bite to eat and then head over to spend the night in Seattle. We have to be up and at the airport at 4am! Yikes. Can’t wait to see my brother, Monica and Luca so all the travel will be well worth it! Here are a couple of pics of my nephew, Luca (he’s two weeks older than Carlos). Since they read the blog each day, I thought it would be cool for him to see a picture of him online.

See you soon, bro!

The search for the snow boots for our trip was on…after starting out with intentions of hitting “once upon a child” and Children’s Place in Tacoma, by the time we got to Silverdale, Carlos had to go potty and I just didn’t have the energy to go further than Silverdale. We trudged through the mall and finally found some winter boots at Sears.

On the way back through the mall we stopped at Baby Gap (Carlos wanted some big boy underwear because…knock on wood….he’s potty trained!). Anyhow, he somehow tripped on his feet and knocked his head on a shelf. He got up with a quarter size lump on his head and wanted to immediately go to sleep on my shoulder, not good. Anyhow, I dropped Levi and Trey at home then headed back to Silverdale to the ER with Carlos. Three hours later and a CT scan we were out of there and Carlos given a clean bill of health. He’s ok!

Levi got to go hang out and have dinner with Gay and Rob and he was SO excited to do that. He’s jazzed to get one on one time so it was perfect for him.

Allie came by to hang out and we’re watching the Top Chef marathon…yippee! Oh, and on the new Top Chef, Marcel (the pompous one) is from Bainbridge. Weird.

Tomorrow’s going to be fun….try to get Carlos in for a follow up with Margaret and then Allie, Gay and I are headed into the big city to get facials at the Aveda Institute (where Chelsea is training). Should be a fun girl’s time!

We had a busy, busy day yesterday and ventured out to Old Navy, Gap and Target. Got some great deals at Target (next year’s Christmas cards) and I got to spend my Old Navy gift certificate from Dee on clothes for ME. I can’t remember the last time I bought clothes for myself and with their 50% off sale I got 2 shirts, a sweatshirt, sweatpants, 2 pairs of gloves and 2 pairs of pajama bottoms all for $60. I think that was also the first time that I’ve gone into Old Navy and not come out with something for the boys.

Dee and I took the boys out to eat at the Kings Wok Buffet, our favorite “dirty bird” (as Dawn would say) for lunch. It was nice to just sit as a family for a meal and the boys love the noodles and meat.

Dee took the boys home so I could finish my shopping in peace, thank you Dee! Anyhow, they went home to take a nap and by the time I got home we had our Christmas celebration with the Vails, Gay and Rob and Laura and Chelsea. The boys went nuts and Levi took a liking to Rob and was going to get his sleeping bag so he could have a sleepover when they left. It was TOO cute. I think Rob enjoyed it, too. Anyhow, Rob’s planning on picking Levi up for some guy time this afternoon so that’ll be great for him.

Still trying to get our ducks in a row before our trip and fingers are crossed that the weather in Denver mellows out a little so we can get to my brother’s house!

Another Christmas come and gone…it was a truly great one. The boys are at the age where presents are cool, but they also want to stop and play with what they got. Some favorites….
Levi got a cool fire station, train set and some great Thomas cars and an FM radio.
Carlos’ favorite is his hispanic anotomically correct doll that he named “Edgar” (interesting, because that was his name at birth), a soccer ball, basketball game and the FM radio is by far his favorite.
Trey got a sit n spin, a drum and Thomas books to name a few.
Together they got an Interactv system (VERY cool) and neat Pottery Barn kids towels.
There was lots more but those were the highlights and what I am looking at laying on the living room floor. The highlight for Dee and I was the blanket from “the boys” (aka Nana) that was embroidered with “we love mamas” and a picture of 3 little boys and their names. It was amazingly cool and we will cherish that forever.
We had a great time with them this morning, having our family celebration and then got to go to Nana and Papas for another little family celebration, then home for naps and a visit from Godma Ann and then back to Nana and Papa’s for the Burr family celebration. All in all the boys were excited but good! It was great to see the Burr side of the family, seems we don’t get together often enough these days and it’s always good to catch up on everyone’s lives. The boys ended the night by eating the candies off the gingerbread house they made with Nana and Papa…they have been wanting to do that for weeks now!
Off to clean up and put some toys away so that tomorrow isn’t overwhelming as well. Hope all had a very Merry Christmas!

December 24, 2006

Well, today has been PACKED with excitement…here’s a brief recap!

Started off going to church this morning and just about fainted when they called all the kids up front (as they always do at our church for a little mini discussion before they all leave for Sunday school) and there were our big boys, Levi and Carlos sitting on the top step in the middle for all to see. Usually not an issue, but today was the 4th day of Advent so all the candles were lit and I looked up just in time to see Carlos trying to BLOW OUT THE ADVENT CANDLES. I almost died. But what do you do? Thank heavens that one of the choir members went down to sit next to him until the chat was over. Oh, he also didn’t want to give up his offering, that was nice, too.

We did our Santa deliveries of baked goods to neighbors and friends, got to chat with some and others weren’t home and with the bad weather we didn’t leave things on the porch. Sorry if you didn’t get one, should have been home. LOL. I didn’t bake a ton this year, but just a few things to give away.

Tried to get the boys down for a nap and Levi and Trey did pretty well with that, but we fought Carlos for a couple of hours to no avail. Went to my folks house tonight and we drove around to see some cool Christmas lights in Suquamish and Poulsbo. There was on cul de sac just about NK high school that really outdid themselves, I mean the guy came out onto his porch and made it snow, had Santa coming up out of a chimney, the Grinch driving a fire truck with music and all. If you want to see it I can tell you how to get there. Well worth it! Went back to my folks for crab dinner (YUM, great tradition!) and the boys opened their one present on Christmas Eve, their new pajamas! They got in the tub, got on their new jammies and then we just came home and got them into bed.

And now the magic happens, here are the “before” Christmas morning pictures. Check back for the “after” shots. Merry Christmas to all!

December 23, 2006

What a fun day…we started out with meeting Margaret for coffee (Happy Birthday, Margaret, by the way!) and then we took the boys to play at the Kids Museum. We had gone earlier in the week and they were so excited to show Mama D all the cool things they could do there. We made some angel ornaments and played with the “physics” themed displays, most involving golf balls.

Got them down for a quick nap, did some baking and then the big boys got to go on a tour of the fire station and to ice cream with Nana and Papa. Mamas went shopping for some last minute stocking stuffers with Trey.

SO looking forward to the next few days….the wonder of Christmas through the eyes of the boys is amazing.

December 22, 2006

Got some funny fake teeth at the “evil empire” (aka Walmart) yesterday…the boys had fun playing around with them. Trey didn’t get the idea of not eating them, so there are no pictures of him wearing them. Carlos was the most excited to try all of the different kinds. I think he just likes getting his picture taken.
Finished wrapping presents and made a bunch of holiday baked items.
Up early this morning for yet another trip to Silverdale. Alice is getting pictures done and I am being sucked back into the Mervyn’s sale to see if things are more than 60% off at this point (I can’t do 60%, not enough!)

December 21, 2006

Oh what fun….Dee’s got a bad cold and actually went to the doctor’s and got some antibiotics. Levi’s on antibiotics for an ear infection and his asthma is cruddy so we had to take him in for a chest x-ray to rule out pnemonia. He’s clear so that’s a plus. Hoping all the meds kick in and we can have a happy, healthy Christmas.
We got called yesterday to take in a 4 month old girl and/or a 10 month old boy. Since Dee was sick we said no, but they called again today for the 10 month old boy. Wish we could take him in, but I think we really need to get the family healthy and 1o month olds are busy. If a newborn comes along we’d do that still.
Found this vintage tshirt for Carlos at the consignment store yesterday. I think it’s hilarious! Darth Vader asking “Who’s your daddy?” Classic.

Some random pictures from the last few days….the boys playing in the freezing cold house, the foster parent Christmas party.
We saw Santa yesterday and the boys were pretty much good with it. We did some more shopping since our power was still out, but the kids did pretty well. Spent the night at Nana and Papa’s house to stay warm, it was nice to spend the time together. It was kind of like vacation!

We were happy the power came back on this afternoon, 5 days with limited naps is just too much fun for mamas. Came home from Silverdale, got the kids into bed and they slept like logs.

Potty update…Carlos is a rock star. He had one acident today and that’s about average, but he’s really trying and has had a ton of success. Bad timing to start the training with the holidays, the power outage and our upcoming trip and all but he said he was done with diapers and well, he is!
Back in the land of lights and heat and happy!
